In order to enhance the legal awareness of community residents and popularize the knowledge of succession laws in the Civil Code, the Wudaokou Jiayuan Community Committee invited lawyers from Beijing Blossom & Credit Law Firm (hereinafter referred to as “Blossom & Credit”) to organize a public lecture on the knowledge of inheritance laws, purchase, donation, and inheritance of real properties on June 16, 2023, taking into account the actual needs of community residents.

The progress of society and increase in people’s wealth lead to the increasing significance of succession laws and regulations. As an integral part of marriage and family laws, succession laws and regulations are closely related to every family. If it’s handled properly, family harmony can be achieved, while if not, family discord can be caused and even greater family conflicts can arise, especially when high-value properties, such as apartments, vehicles, deposits, stocks, etc., which are possible focuses leading to disputes. Community residents, especially the elderly, have limited access to relevant knowledge and information, and do not have a good understanding of succession laws and regulations and how to deal with succession and other related legal practices. Therefore, this public lecture is designed to enhance community residents’ knowledge of succession laws through on-site interaction, so that they can sufficiently understand and utilize succession laws and carry out practical measures such as notarization and ownership transfer registration to protect their own rights and interests.

Blossom & Credit’s lawyers CHAI Qinghai and YAN Jinxia explained in detail the provisions of the Civil Code in relation to succession and ownership transfer of real properties by explaining a number of real cases in depth based on the actual situation of residents’ life, making a vivid lecture on laws for the citizens. The lawyers at the site interacted with the audience many times and the atmosphere was warm. Through the analysis of real cases by the lawyers, the residents acquired a better understanding of succession laws and regulations and improved their knowledge of these laws. They all expressed that the lecture was rewarding and hoped that such activities could be carried out more often in the future.

At the end of the lecture, the two lawyers further conducted on-site one-on-one Q&A sessions to answer questions concerning how to transfer the real property to next generation, the difference among inheritance, purchase/sale, and donation, and how to inherit the property by an inheritor who was living outside of China, etc. This public benefit lecture on the legal theme of succession and real properties produced favorable effects of legal popularization.
